GBMSD and Sanitary Sewer Rate Update

Green Bay Metropolitan Sewerage District Sewer (GBMSD) Rate for 2012

The following information is an update on the proposed Green Bay Metropolitan Sewerage District (GBMSD) proposed 2012 budget and the impact of their rate increase on the Village of Allouez sanitary sewer rate.

The GBMSD annual budget for 2012 sets the wastewater treatment rate charged to the Village of Allouez and its other customers. Allouez must increase its sewer rate to Village customers to pay for the increased GBMSD sewerage costs.

GBMSD Sewer Rate to Customers

The GBMSD sewerage rate for 2012 is proposed at a 7.1% increase to $2.12 per 1000 gallons over the 2011 rate of $1.98 per 1000 gallons. This will result in Allouez increasing its sewer rate to approximately $4.75 per 1000 gallons for 2012. The difference in the GBMSD rate and the Allouez rate to customers is the cost the Village incurs to operate its wastewater collection system and to replace aging sanitary sewers.

GBMSD anticipates an annual rate increase to customers of approximately 8% per year over the next five years. The reason is the debt service costs for recently completed projects, and the added debt service for the proposed solids handling system which needs to be constructed within the next 5 years.
